Semester-long Study Abroad Program and Intensive English Program
Study abroad programs are a vital part of the curriculum at the School of Global Japanese Studies as it is our mission to promote international exchange. We currently offer two programs: the Semester Study Abroad Program and the Intensive English Program.
In the Semester-long Study Abroad Program, students spend between four and six months in their final semester of the second year at one of our partner universities. There they take regular lectures with the local students and can earn credits. Since these credits are recognized by the School of Global Japanese School, this means the students can graduate in the usual four year period. In 2009, we sent five students each to the University of Oregon and the State University of New York in New Paltz, and four students to Indiana University–Purdue University in Indianapolis. In another program in co-operation with Florida State University, we sent eleven students as interns to Walt Disney World .

During the summer of 2009, in the Intensive English Program, 42 second year students spent four weeks at partner universities abroad. We sent 21 students to Hertford College at the University of Oxford, 12 to College of Staten Island at the City University of New York in Staten Island and 9 students to the University of Oregon. This program proved to be very successful and the students benefitted greatly from their new experience.
The 25 students who participated in the Semester-long Study Abroad Program and the 42 participants of the Intensive English Program entered their third year in April 2010. Undoubtedly, they will take a leading role in international exchange at the School in the remaining years before graduation. We also hope that these students, as the first group to have enrolled in the School of Global Japanese Studies, will be active globally after graduation.
